This is the essay that got me into college...and the reason for that is just beyond me.

What could I offer as a student at GC&SU? Well, first of all, it must be said that it is highly unlikely and better regarded as impossible for me to tell you, in just one essay, all of the things that I could bring to GC&SU. With that being said, I would only like to focus on, what I feel, is the best talent that anyone could ever possess. As a very dear friend of mine once said (who was also heard very recently on Z 97.7- the beloved Milledgeville radio station), “Courtney Brakhage is the best spontaneous songwriter you will ever meet.”

Being an impulsive songwriter/guitar player is a rarity. It is also a quality that tends to be a very useful skill for several reasons. Scenario: My roommate comes home early on a Saturday night and she is clearly distraught due to the lack of respect that her significant (well…ex-significant) other seems to have for her. I knew all along, of course, that this guy was bad news from the get go, so naturally, I am ready to help her release her aggression by having the Saturday night sing-along. I would then proceed to lead her in a few impetuous songs that include the bashing of all guys who aren’t George Clooney or John Mayer. So by the end of the night, my roommate has completely recovered from the trauma caused by the said male and she is ready to hit the books and study for the big test on Monday. This in essence will lead to her graduation from GC&SU, which in turn will make her successful in her life long career. All of this success comes from the one Saturday night of spontaneous song writing.

That is only one example of how I can put my talent to use for GC&SU, but in that one example, a young lady learned a valuable lesson about which guys to fall for and she also graduated from Georgia College & State University. My vow to you is to always strive to make the people at GC&SU happier, especially by writing unprompted songs that you just can’t help but smile at. I will also make the vow, not only to you, but to myself as well, to never again date anyone from Milledgeville’s well-known hometown band, ‘Davistreet’.
